Which bed frame type suits your room?
| Type |
What it does |
Best for |
| Storage | Hydraulic lift-up base or side drawers | Small bedrooms, replacing a chest of drawers |
| Divan | Fully upholstered base, even support across the whole mattress | A softer look, heavier sleepers, quiet frames |
| Platform | Low wooden frame, slatted or solid | Low-profile rooms, minimal look, airflow |
| Pull-out | Second (sometimes third) bed stored underneath | Guest rooms, siblings sharing, studies |
| Bunk | Two beds in one footprint | Children's rooms, maximising floor area |
| Hidden wall bed | Folds vertically into a cabinet when not in use | Rooms that double as a study or play space |
Singapore bed sizes
| Size |
Mattress dimensions |
| Single | 91 × 190 cm |
| Super Single | 107 × 190 cm |
| Queen | 152 × 190 cm |
| King | approx. 182–183 × 190 cm |
Frame footprints run larger than these figures — a headboard, side rails and an upholstered surround all add width and length. Measure the room, not the mattress.
What to check before buying a bed frame in Singapore
Slat spacing decides whether your warranty survives. Most mattress manufacturers specify a maximum gap between slats, commonly around 7cm. Wider gaps let the mattress sag between them, and that pattern of damage is usually excluded from warranty cover. Check the gap before you buy the frame, not after the mattress arrives.
Queen and king frames need centre support that reaches the floor. A centre rail that only spans the width, without legs down to the floor, will flex over time and leave a dip along the middle of the bed. This is the most common cause of a mattress that seems to fail early when the mattress itself is fine.
Work out your real storage gain. A hydraulic lift-up base gives you one large volume, easy to access but requiring the whole bed to be cleared first. Drawers give you smaller compartments you can open any time, but they need floor clearance at the side — a problem in a room where the bed sits against a wall. Which suits you depends on what you plan to store and how often you need it.
Airflow matters in this climate. A solid-base frame traps the moisture your body releases into the mattress overnight, with nowhere for it to go. Slatted bases let it evaporate downwards. If you want a storage base, one with a gas-lift mechanism at least lets you open it and air the mattress properly every few months.
Check it fits the lift before you order. A mattress is flexible and a slatted frame comes apart, but divan and storage bases are one rigid piece at the full 190cm length. In our experience this is the single item that most often stops a delivery. Measure your lift car depth and the clear door opening, and tell us both when you enquire — we will tell you whether the frame you want goes up.
Matching the frame to the mattress
Buy the two together wherever you can. A firm mattress on a solid platform can feel harder than it did in the showroom; a soft one on widely spaced slats will dip. The combination is what you actually sleep on, and testing them separately tells you less than you think.
If you are replacing a mattress that failed early, bring a photo of the old frame. More often than not the frame is where the problem started.
See them at our Ubi showroom
Open the storage mechanisms. Lift a hydraulic base and feel how much effort it takes with a mattress on it. Pull out a 3-in-1 and see whether the second bed sits level. Push on the centre support. None of this is visible in a product photograph, and all of it determines whether you are still happy with the frame in five years.
We are at 33 Ubi Ave 3, Vertex, #01-16, open daily 11am–8pm, no appointment needed. Our own team delivers and installs, so the person advising you is the person who fits it.
Send us your room dimensions and bed size and we will tell you which frames fit and which to rule out before you visit.
Frequently asked questions
What size bed frame fits an HDB bedroom?
A queen suits most HDB master bedrooms, and a super single or single suits the common bedrooms. The constraint is rarely the mattress size itself but the clearance around it — you need room to walk past the bed and to open the wardrobe. Measure the room and subtract the walking space you need before choosing a size.
Do I need a bed frame, or can the mattress go on the floor?
A frame does real work in Singapore's climate. On the floor, moisture has nowhere to escape and the underside of the mattress will eventually show it. A frame also keeps the mattress off a surface that gets mopped, and most warranties require appropriate support.
Are storage beds worth it?
In a compact bedroom, usually yes. The space under a queen bed is roughly equivalent to a double wardrobe, and it costs you no additional floor area. The trade-off is access — lift-up bases need the bed cleared, drawers need side clearance.
How long should a bed frame last?
Considerably longer than a mattress. A well-built frame with proper centre support should outlast two mattresses. Joints loosening, slats cracking or a centre rail flexing are the usual signs it is time to replace.
Can I use my existing mattress with a new frame?
Usually, provided the sizes match and the slat spacing suits the mattress type. Bring the mattress brand and model when you visit and we will check the manufacturer's support requirements against the frame you are considering.
Do you deliver and install bed frames?
Yes, islandwide, with our own team rather than a third-party courier. Assembly is included, and we check lift and doorway access before the delivery date rather than discovering a problem on the day.
