Choosing a sofa for a Singapore living room

Measure before you fall in love with something. The number that catches people out isn't the sofa's width — it's the doorway, lift and corridor it has to travel through. HDB lift lobbies and older walk-up corridors are the usual obstacles. Give us your access details and we'll flag anything that won't fit.

Seat depth decides comfort more than cushion softness. A deep seat suits lounging and taller users; a shallower seat suits upright sitting and shorter users, whose feet should still reach the floor.

Leave walking space. In a typical HDB living room, a 3-seater plus a coffee table works; an oversized L-shape can leave under 60cm of walking room, which feels cramped within a week.

With pets, the weave matters more than the material. Tight-weave fabrics give claws nothing to hook into; loose weaves and bouclé are the worst choice.

Will a sofa fit through my HDB lift?

Most standard sofas will, but L-shapes and large 3-seaters need checking. Tell us your block type and floor and we can flag likely issues before delivery day rather than on it.

Fabric or leather in Singapore's humidity?

Fabric breathes and doesn't stick to skin, which many people prefer locally. Leather wipes clean instantly and handles spills better. Both perform fine in air-conditioned homes.

What sofa size suits a 4-room HDB living room?

A 3-seater, or a compact L-shape, usually leaves adequate walking space. Larger L-shapes tend to work better in 5-room flats and condos.
